The Japanese Store Book Nook is a miniature architectural sculpture designed to sit between books on a shelf, on a desk, or on any flat surface where it can be seen and appreciated. It depicts a two-storey Japanese convenience store building in meticulous detail: a terracotta-tiled pitched roof sits above a whitewashed upper floor with teal-framed windows and an external air conditioning unit, which overhangs a beige fascia board bearing the store name in bold katakana script. Below that, a sky-blue curved awning shelters the shopfront, where a red sliding door stands open beside a warmly lit interior revealing shelves stocked with miniature goods. An external timber staircase rises along the right-hand side. A fire hydrant marker and assorted street-level details complete the scene to the left.
The entire piece is designed around its built-in warm LED interior light, which illuminates the shopfront from within and spills out through the open doorway and across the surrounding book spines whenever it is switched on.
